Unsure Where to Start

Many parents and guardians reach out because they have noticed something about their child’s behaviour, emotions, or development that has begun to feel confusing or overwhelming.

If you are unsure what kind of support might be helpful, the questions below may be a useful place to start. They address some of the things parents commonly ask when considering consultation, assessment, or therapy. If you cannot find the information you need, please feel free to get in touch.

You might consider consultation if: • You are navigating long waiting lists and would like answers more quickly than public services are able to provide • Concerns about your child’s thoughts, behaviour, emotions, or development have been building over time • Cultural or identity-related factors feel misunderstood or insufficiently considered in previous support • School has raised questions and you feel unsure how to respond • There are differences in attention, learning, behaviour, or development that you would like help understanding • Emotional difficulties such as anxiety, low mood, obsessive thoughts or compulsive behaviours, anger, or frequent emotional outbursts are affecting daily life • Family relationships feel strained or communication has become difficult • There has been a significant change, such as separation, relocation, adoption, trauma, or transition • You would value a second opinion or independent clinical perspective • A formal psychological report is needed for school, education planning, or other professional purposes • You are unsure whether what you are seeing is part of development or something that may need support

How old does my child need to be to receive therapy?

Therapy is typically offered to children and young people who are able to engage in conversation about their experiences, usually from around age 5 onwards. If your child is younger, please feel free to get in touch to discuss whether support may still be appropriate.

How many sessions will my child need?

This depends on your child’s needs. Many interventions are delivered over 6–12 sessions. In some cases, where difficulties are more complex, therapy may continue for longer. The most appropriate plan will be discussed during the initial consultation.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. We offer secure online therapy sessions where clinically appropriate. This can be especially useful for older children or teens with demanding schedules, mobility challenges or if you live outside London

Can sessions take place at home or in school?

Sessions can take place at home or within a school setting. This may be helpful when working with younger children, understanding family dynamics, or where difficulties make it hard for a young person to attend sessions outside the home. This is considered on a case-by-case basis and may also depend on your location

How involved will I be in my child’s therapy?

When working with children and adolescents, parents and carers are often involved in the therapy process. The level of involvement tends to be greater the younger the child is. Initial assessment usually involves two parts: first meeting with parents to understand the nature of the difficulties, and then meeting with the child.

Do you work with families from different cultural backgrounds?

Yes. Work is sensitive to each family’s cultural background, values, and experiences, and aims to provide care that is respectful and responsive to these contexts.

Is everything my child says confidential?

Confidentiality is an important part of therapy. At the same time, parents and guardians are often involved in the work, particularly with younger children. The approach to sharing information is discussed carefully so that the young person feels safe while parents remain appropriately informed. If there are concerns about a young person’s safety or the safety of others, it may be necessary to share information with parents or relevant professionals in order to ensure appropriate support.

Can you provide reports for schools or other professionals?

Where appropriate, written reports or professional input can be provided to support educational planning or communication with other professionals involved in your child’s care.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Instalment payments are available at checkout through Klarna.
